Plasma Cutting FAQ's
Q. What are the most common plasma cutting torch consumables?
A. Most plasma torches which use some combination of an electrode, a cutting tip or nozzle, a retaining cap, a swirl ring and a deflector / shield.
Q. Which plasma torch spares do I replace most frequently?
A. The most commonly replaced plasma torch spares are the electrode and the cutting tip / nozzle.
Q. How can I save money on plasma cutter torch spares?
A. The first thing to ensure is that you are cutting with a clean air supply. Contaminated air can cause your consumable life to be impacted dramatically; this is mostly due to moisture content in the compressed air. We advise installing a water trap or refrigerant dryer to prevent moisture content in your compressed air.
Secondly, you may consider switching your consumable supply to an after-market plasma torch supplier such as Thermacut. They can offer savings of up to 50% whilst offering the same consumable life span and cut quality. Our sales team would be more than happy to discuss this option with you.
Q. How often should I change my plasma torch consumables?
A. It's hard to say exactly how frequently you should change your plasma torch consumables. It's a "how long is a piece of string?" kind of question. There are many, many factors to consider including:
- Material type
- Material thickness
- Quality / cleanliness of compressed air supply
- Travel speed
- Cutting distance
The best thing to do as regards changing your plasma torch spares is constantly monitoring them to ensure they are functioning as they should and no obvious signs of damage are visible.
